About

An independent shop that only works on one brand

We repair Viking ranges, ovens, built-in refrigeration and dishwashers on the Northwest Side of Chicago, and nothing else. That is a deliberately small surface: one brand, four appliances, four neighbourhoods.

A bristle brush, four nut drivers and long-nose pliers laid out on a cloth over a wooden bench, with nuts, washers, screws and two small steel brackets set out below them

What a visit actually is

A diagnosis, then a price, then the work — in that order, and the second step does not start until the first one has produced a reading rather than an opinion. On a range that means manifold pressure and a look at the port before anything is called a faulty igniter. On an oven it means a probe in the cavity and a current reading at the igniter, not the number on the display. On a refrigerator it means shelf temperatures and airflow at the condenser before gauges come out of the bag at all.

You get the readings, in writing, whether or not you go ahead. That is the part we would want if it were our kitchen: not a verdict, but the numbers the verdict came from.

What we will not do

We will not replace a part on suspicion and bill you for the guess. We will not quote a figure over the phone for an appliance nobody has looked at, because a number given blind is either padded to be safe or revised upward on the day, and both are worse than saying "the service call is $89 and you will have a firm price before anything is opened".

We also will not tell you a repair is worth doing when it is not. On this housing stock — bungalows, two-flats and rehabs where the kitchen was built around one appliance — replacing usually costs more than the appliance, because the cabinetry was cut to fit. But not always, and when it is not, that is what you will be told.

Why the coverage list is short

Logan Square, Wicker Park, Avondale and Portage Park sit on one route. A company that claims the whole city either has vans it is not telling you about or is going to miss a window. Four neighbourhoods is what can honestly be reached in the same week, so that is the list, and it is the same list in the footer, in the schema and on the phone.

Independent, and what that means

We are not Viking and we are not one of their authorised agents. We are an independent service company that works on their appliances, which means we buy parts to factory specification, we can tell you when a repair is not worth it, and we have no target to move a new unit. If your appliance is inside a manufacturer warranty, call them first — that is free to you and it would be odd of us not to say so.

The four things we tell everybody

One trade, one brand
Viking ranges, ovens, refrigeration and dishwashers. We do not also do washers, dryers or HVAC, and we are not a dispatch desk that subcontracts the visit on.
Gas work taken seriously
A range that will not light is a gas appliance before it is an inconvenience. Orifices, regulators and connections get checked as part of the diagnosis, not as an upsell.
The price before the panel
A firm figure covering parts and labour, agreed in your kitchen before anything is ordered or opened further. Nothing is replaced on suspicion.
Independent, and it says so
An independent service company. Not Viking, not an authorised agent of Viking, and the footer of every page says so.

Standing behind it

What we hold, and what we leave with you

  • EPA Section 608 Certified for refrigerant handling, which is what a sealed-system diagnosis on a built-in column legally requires before gauges go anywhere near it.
  • Factory-spec parts Replacement parts are ordered against your model and serial. No universal igniter, no near-enough thermostat, no part chosen because it was on the van.
  • Written diagnosis What was measured, what it read, and what that means, left with you on paper — whether or not you go ahead with the repair.
  • Workmanship warranty The labour on a repair we carry out is warranted. If the same fault returns, the return visit is not a second service call.

Licensed, bonded and insured. We provide our licence number to customers on request.

Booking

Book the visit, or just ask the question

Dispatch is answered around the clock. If the answer is "that is a five-minute check you can do yourself", that is what you will be told on the phone rather than sold a visit for.
